Guest Author Interview
Every few weeks I post a guest author interview on my blog where we get a little peak into an author's life! This week we're chatting with Rachel Rivers, author of the Hex Falls Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series. Have a question for Rachel? Don't be afraid to leave a comment!
Rachel writes light-hearted, fun-loving, slightly-zany paranormal cozies with heart.
1. How long does it take you to write a full novel? AND...what's a typical writing day look like for you?
Oh wow! Let's see. Well... it usually takes me three to four months to complete a book, from start to finish, and all the editing.
A typical day for me is, up by 6:30 am, walk the dog, listen to audiobooks as I walk, then back home, drink full glass of water (very important to get your water in!) make my favourite tea (cinnamon by the way), then sit down and write. I typically write from 7:30 am until 4:30 pm every day... like a day job.
After which, I usually go shopping for fresh meat and veg to make dinner with, make dinner, than handle my marketing at night. I find that if I don't get the writing in first, the marketing takes over, so I save marketing tasks for the evening, while watching TV. Then it's off to bed by 11:00 pm, and up and do it all over again. Groundhog Day!
2. Beside's writing, what are you most passionate about?
Art. I love to paint, sculpt, and collect art. My kids used to joke that our home was like a museum. No furniture, but art all over the place. And it was true! I spent all my extra money, all my life, on art.
3. If you could travel to any location to write a novel, where would you go and why?
To Downton Abbey... or the set of it... to that lovely castle, Highclere Castle, I think it's called, where I'd rent a room and just sit there, overlooking its the glorious grounds and taking tea in the library on breaks, while I write all day and all night. Aaaaah... such a lovely dream! HA!
4. What's the latest show you binge watched?
Good Girls Revolt, on Amazon Prime. SUCH A GREAT SHOW. So interesting to see what women had to go through to fight their way to the top of newspaper industry, not that long ago. Eye opening.
5. Tell us something most people don't know about you!
I am a decorator by trade. I love to decorate. I used to remodel homes. I'd update them so people could sell them in today's market. Not a flipper, though. A home restorer.
A word from Rachel!
I sometimes get asked what character I most like to write. Hands down, it's Sotherby. I adore Sotherby and really enjoy his exchanges with Violet. He has the personality I most like in a man. Chivalrous and kind-heart, yet rough and tumble on the outside, and fiercely loyal and protective of those he loves. I think he has a bit of my dad in him.
