Guest Author Interview
Every few weeks I post a guest author interview on my blog where we get a little peak into an author's life! This week we're chatting with Paula Lester, author of the Sunnyside Retired Witches Community Cozy Mystery Series. Have a question for Paula? Don't be afraid to leave a comment!
Paula Lester is a paranormal cozy mystery author who lives in the Northwoods and drinks a lot of coffee. She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, biking, reading, and is learning to cross country ski because you have to have a winter hobby around here.
1. How long does it take you to write a full novel? AND...what's a typical writing day look like for you?
It takes me around a month to write a full-length novel. In the age of COVID, with my 7-year-old home, my family tends to sleep in until around 9:30 or 10 am. I have coffee, check my social media and email author accounts, and talk to my family. Then, I edit the chapter(s) I wrote the day before and do any necessary author administration work.
Around noon, I get online and do my writing in sprints with a group of author friends until I'm done with my word count for the day. That generally takes three to five hours. In the evenings, I do more administration work if I need to.
2. Beside's writing, what are you most passionate about?
Oh, so nature is my other passion. Protecting it and enjoying it.
3. If you could travel to any location to write a novel, where would you go and why?
Ireland or New Zealand. I think both places would be so inspiring in different ways.
4. What's the latest show you binge watched?
Hmm. I don't do that too much. Maybe Breaking Bad, but that was years ago.
5. Tell us something most people don't know about you!
I went off to college at 17, got into veterinary school without finishing undergrad, and graduated at 24 with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. I practiced small animal veterinary medicine for 15 years. (OK, most of my family knows that but many readers don't!)
A word from Paula!
My readers like to know where I get my story ideas. The answer is that I often have the best ideas right during that time when I'm almost asleep. The other two times are in the shower and while swimming in Lake Superior. 🙂
Sunnyside Retired Witches Cozy Mystery Series
When a bunch of retired witches help solve crimes, the results are both hilarious and heart-warming.
Thank you, Paula, for joining us today and sharing a little bit of your writing process and a behind the scenes peek at your personal life 🙂
Don't forget, you can ask Paula a question in the comments (I'll make sure she sees it) and of course shoot on over to her website where you'll learn more about her books.
